GY6 self-engaging starter

We acquired a hammerhead 150 that was not running. It is still not running. Two problems are most obvious to me. 1) If the battery is charged, the starter will intermittently engage itself. The engine won't start, but the starter engages and disengages until the battery runs down. 2) We can't get a spark. Parts replaced include spark plug, CDI box, ignition switch, magneto & stator. When we connect the cables to the battery we get sparks whether the key is turned on or not. Is that a bad sign? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Well I would double check the ign switch. I had 150 doing the inter start thing and no spark. Both came from the switch.

You also might have a brake switch that needs to be pushed so look at that

Thanks for the quick response. We'll 2x check the ignition switch and look into the brake switch.
