Default What size buggy for 8 year olds?

I'm new to the buggy scene and am researching which buggies I should get for my 8 year old twin boys. I would like to get them something they could grow into so it would last them awhile. Is something like a HammerHead 150cc too much for the little guys? Thanks for your help.

I have an ASW Carbide and that thing goes pretty dang fast. If it were my 8 year old kids, 45 MPH would be just a little fast. I would get a 150 if you plan on putting a speed reducer in it, otherwise, I would probably keep it to a 110cc buggy.

It is very easy to adjust the throttle to only go so fast on a Hammerhead 150.

Thanks for the replys. I think I'll look at some 150cc's for them if they aren't physically too large for them to operate.

All kids are different- my daughter is now 6 drives anything she can reach the pedals on and at 4 she was driving 35+ and keeping up with the larger karts, on the other hand my son now 11 doesn't drive with the same confidence/intensity and needs a governor to restict his speed as he'll put the pedal all the way down without the skill/knowledge to handle it. So you'll have to observe their skill level and motor skills to judge what they can or can't handle safely. Riding with a grown up helps them understand how to re-act as well. I would buy bigger ,something you can drive with them(150cc) and let them work their way up. By the way, my daughters long retired 110cc would go 37mph and my wife hated her driving at that speed till she started letting her lead thru our trails as she watched how she drove -and left us all behind!!!! Karting/buggies teaches so many skills for the youngsters that'll they'll carry into adulthood. Good luck with whatever you decide and enjoy the family fun

My son was 8 when he got his 150cc buggy. I did not let him drive alone for some time until he learned what was acceptable and what was not. He has only flipped it once and drove it into some thicket. Its important that a helmet is always worn, and seat belts on even if he is moving it 20' no exceptions ever. Also if the buggy does not come with them purchase some arm restraints in case of a rollover this will keep the arm in saving it from breakage. Also they need to be taught that it is there buggy and they are responsible for it and if they tear it up it comes out of their pocket weather it be birthday money or allowance. This may seem mean spirited but dicipline will keep the buggy running and also keep them out of the emergency ward. Oh yes the parents also have to set the example as well. TOM

I went and checked out the 150cc American Sportworks buggies but they were MUCH to physically large for my boys to operate. They had a small buggy/kart called "Hornet", which was also by American Sportworks. It is pretty basic with no reverse or electric start and has a 6HP Robin Subaru engine. They are still a bit small but can reach the pedals with a thick pad placed behind their backs. Anyway, I bought two of them and they drove all weekend. They had an absolute blast! I'll try to post some pic's.

asw makes a cdi that restricts a 20 mph limit that would be the best so in a year or two u have no need to trade up in size but i no my cousin was driving the rhino at 8 with a cushion behind his back
