Front/Rear susp. homebuilt/mod ideas
Through all of the work on the buggy, i've come across a lot of different approaches for front and rear suspension components using pre-existing items.
here's a few from the golf cart "line-up" Up front: This particular model golf cart differs from most in that it has a solid beam connection up front that could be cut, boxed and heimed for an instant spindle/hub assembly. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Used-front-a...item1c22683bce This one could be a near weld-in deal, and could be split and modified to work as an IRS as well .... http://www.ebay.com/itm/Chrysler-GEM...item56445901bf For those wondering, this is the most common front cart suspension, unsuitable for rough terrain because of roll-under deflection of the transverse leaf spring and limited travel. could be adapted to work for a smooth dirt-tracker or mini sand rail. Used in most club car, Ez-Go etc electric and gas carts. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Club-Car-Hub...item4cf32ae09e However, the hubs are excellent, they are 4x4 bolt pattern on a 1" axle. Bearings are tapered type like most non-strut cars/trucks and very heavy duty. They're what i have in the Rockhound. Hub/spindle alone is below. A "V" cut through the spindle to free the axle allows it's curved surface to be saved and reused on another spindle tube (1 1/8th cro-moly in my instance). The hits this combo has survived without any damaged has surprised me. The 3rd front end with the leafspring would be an easy conversion to dual A-arms -change the leafspring to an A-arm. I like the splined hubs- having many splined axles & hubs here, it's hard to know what will work together though. I have a couple of items that have 19 splines and won't interchange because the diameter is slightly different. I'm assuming there's not a common set of splines from one manufacturer to another.

probably not, i'm asking around buggiesgonewild at the moment (golf cart mod site) as to the spline count and dia. on the yamaha hubs. can't find specs on them. I want to stay away from a keyed axle/hub at the rear. Been meaning to give a call to the guy that did my spindle pins to see what it would take to match up a set on raw stock. that way i could put bearing stops etc where i want them.
