Nice one! When I was looking for a kart 3 weeks ago, these people were asking 800. Lol. Now they are saying that and dropping the price... Well, at least they came to their senses with the price!

Here is actually a good deal. Been up for sale for 2 months now. If it is still up for sale after new years I might offer him $700 for it.

You poor soul. Well, I would say the original kart that was missing parts that I sent should sell for round 500, but the 900 dollar yerfie is about normal here. Except they usully are BEAT UP. lol. I saw somewhere in NC someone was selling a HEAVILY modded and reinforced Spiderbox for 2K! I'll look for the link later, it's got tons f mod and I think it looks great, but it's a little much

If I had to sell mine, I would ask around $1500, since all the leg work and major parts are there already.

That 2 cylinder looks just like a GY6 clone. Funny. At a car lot and they still don't have a clue. Another reason I loathe car salesmen, and I have to deal with them on a daily basis.

My first carbide i bought from a guy that bought it for his wife. They lived in a suburb...

So they lost interest and parked it in the back yard for TWO YEARS. Never ran it or touched it for two years. Cost me $1200.

I knew i could get it running no problem so i bought it.

It was that or no buggy.

The only issue with ME trying that, is about the most I know about these engines (currently) is the idle screw. So... yea
But next year my highschool offers an Automotive Technology class, and they have a garage to do some hands on work, so Im sure that will help me with identifying some parts on this engine. Once I figure out what the parts are and how they work (together) I can start working on the GY6

you can get a jump on some part names by looking at the parts breakdown for your buggy, and learning the names of it and where it goes.

Interesting, zman, I think I'll go start up now!

Welp. I'm off to the hardware store now because as I removed the fuel line from the hose barb sticking out of the gas tank, it snapped. like you would expect 10y/o nylon to do. -_-

So...I'm off now!

I did! LOL. They had plastic, but I know what gasoline does to cheap plastic...

So... now it is sitting on the end of the tank and I'm letting some epoxy dry right now. I tried plumbers putty on a hope it would work, and it just dissolved. LOL

^ That pic was when I had the plumbers putty in, now the tank is sitting in the basement letting epoxy dry (Loctite Quick Dry...is taking 30 minutes. not so quick.. )

with a hose clamp on it you should not have had to put anything on it, unless it was a threaded fitting which in that case you got the wrong fitting.

I had the hose fitting CLAMPED DOWN SUPER TIGHT with a flat head, and it started to leak....the old fitting was in there SUPER tight, but the new one just slid in there, I didn't have to force it, which is probably why I'm having these issues....the epoxy STILL hasn't dried. I know it isn't gonna cure for 24hrs, but at least it would have solidified by now?

on the right side where you have the hose clamp, is that a rubber hose? I can't really tell from the pic.you should never use epoxy on hose fittings, regardless.

you should look into fuel resistant epoxy. The only stuff I have found is marine grade sealer, which runs around $18/tube. JB weld will work, for a while, not the JB quick, that stuff sucks.

if he has the right kind of fitting he shouldn't need any sealer.

I read that this epoxy holds up to solvents, but is not supposed to be used in constantly wet areas...oh well. we will see.

The fitting I used CERTAINLY wasn't meant for the gas tank. And I had to drill out the tank hole a little bit to let it fit, but I went from a tiny bit all the way up to the size I needed, so it's not like I took a 1/2in bit and went AWOL. lol

I ended up using 7/16 (or something like that) as my size and since the next size down DIDN'T let the piece slide in, I had to use this one... The hose barb really does nothing on the gas tank. Is it supposed to be around the end of the tank like it is? Or should it be on where the fuel line hooks up to the barb? I would think it should go where the line hooks up, but there are no issues with leakage there... I'm sure the reason the barb isn't doing much is because this guy said the kart was an early 2000s spiderbox, so the plastic (im sure) is nice, hard, and brittle. LOL

When I am looking for a new buggy, I would GLADLY opt out of a new one and just get THAT spiderbox! LOL

you still haven't answered my question, is that line where the hose clamp is a rubber line or metal?

It is a rubber hose, yes. And I am only using epoxy because I am planning to dump this thing in a week or two...

well in that case that should be a barbed end on that fitting and it wouldn't leak.

EXACTLY. Yea, the barbed end doesn't leak, so no hose clamp needed there, but it's where the barb goes into the gas tank where it leaks, but the plastic is so NOT flexible that it does nothing.

Anyway epoxy is pretty much done and I'll test out in about 30 minutes.

I'm talking about it should really be a barb fitting on both ends.

Correct. It is an extension of the gas tank. It is one piece. Right now, the epoxy is in there pretty tight, but there is still a TINY bit of wiggle room, so I am waiting for it to harden, then I will test it out. Should be fine. This time, I REALLY cranked down the hose clamp onto the plastic.

I wish. Right now I moved our hammock under the porch and I'm just waiting for the rain to stop. I put 100mL of gas in at 1:00 PM and it still hasn't dropped into the lines yet.... Whether its the gas or the rain, right now I'm stuck.

That's nice, but there is a Carbide that actually HAS the passenger seat in the Charlotte area for 600. LOL. But there's only one of them, and deals like that are SUPER rare down here. And...I'm not so sure I would say you are "lucky" to live in a poor state, but it certainly has its benefits.

A little off the subject, but look at this. http://wheeling.craigslist.org/sno/4208337606.html
It is like an all in one.
Drive to spot, wait in blind/utv, grab gun or bow from rack, load, shoot from window, then haul deer home.
Looks homemade and pretty cool even to a non-hunter.

Parts needed.... new battery brake pads and one front brake caliper.

Love this thing!

Wow! Do you know why they were selling it that cheap? I saw a Helix in GREAT condition locally for $900 with no brakes. Like it needed a new brake system. Which now when I think about it, wasn't a terrible price, but was out of my budget.

The buggy had sat for 6 months. Was pretty dirty. The owner hadn't had luck with selling stuff on Craigslist in the past. He had just bought his boys new motocross bikes.

Super lucky timing for me!

Looks like a good parts buggy. Sure they could be talked down at least $100.

Aw man! Those deals HURT! My Spiderbox was bought for a tiny bit less than that Carbide! Oh the pain!

I came close to a Carbide, then the guy sold it to his brother literally 2hrs after I called -_-

It's all good in the end. When you finish with the yerf, you will be able say a few things.
- " I did this, hell yeah"
- you will have gained mechanical comprehension for the combustion engine.
- your mechanical and fabricating skills will be more than you thought.
- and you will probably never be done, because there is always something else you can do to make it more bad azz.

Just my thoughts

I agree with the above statements, but I am growing tired of fabbing up every little thing I need. Sometimes I just want to bolt something on and move on to the next area. My mechanical side just told me that will never happen, though. Stupid brain!

My parents are sick and tired of me "constantly" (every 2 years) switching projects and toys... and shhhh I'm actually contemplating selling my other electric scooter for a gas one...the batts and charging and not holding said charge is driving me nuts (and new batts cost $160). As of now (buying and selling vehicle wise) that's my top priority as its my neighborhood ride. Plus, with the 800-900 ish dollars in the Yerf, there's no way I'm going to break even, and I'm pretty sure that's the only way my parents would even CONTEMPLATE letting me switch out. Plus it's a "thing" that I'm modding out the Yerf! I think it's a nice first kart and it might be a PITA to do everything yourself, but I kinda like that about it. It's a stripped out blank canvas... But trust me I'd still love the carbide

Edit: Crunched the numbers and I'd have to sell the Yerf for about $1000 to break even/earn a TINY amount... There are idiots around here, but.......
