What am I missing? Yerf Dog GX-150 front wheels
The inside of the wheels rub on the spindles when the nut is tightened.
It seems to me there should be some kind of spacer between the wheel bearing and spindle. Am I missing something here? picture sharing Last edited by Luckyhermit; 10-22-2012 at 01:57 PM. |

I'm pretty sure there should be a metal washer about an 1/8 inch thick in between the wheel and hub.

Mine have washer, 1/2 inch spacer. washer.... I found some replacement spacer and washers at Lowes.

I'm finding that it is going to be a little more difficult piecing this thing back together than I thought since I have never seen what it looks like fully together. |

I think there was a small spacer about 0.5 to .75 of an inch in one that I sold (othersiwe I would check) you could replace with a small piece of pipe.

I looked at the online diagrams, and I could find nothing about the front wheels.
Today after work I'm gonna drop by the hardware store and get a few washers, and try to find something for a spacer. I'll most likely end up cutting a pipe like neone247 suggested. Oh crud.. I just realized I forgot to measure what size spacer and washer I'll need. Anybody happen to know the diameter of the shaft? Last edited by Luckyhermit; 10-22-2012 at 02:14 PM. |

5/8" shaft. Either buy a box of fender washers to make spacers or some 5/8" I.D. pipe and cut it up at home.

Thanks guys for the ideas. I went to the hardware store and bought some 5/8" washers, and it works pretty good.
Is the nut on the outside supposed to be tightened up till it's snug, or left a little loose? The reason I ask is if I tighten it up, the washers and the nut rub up against the part of the bearing that is turning- causing it to sieze. If I back off the nut a turn it moves free, but I'm afraid the nuts will work off eventually... Tim |

The original front nuts were nylon lock nuts - I noticed you had castle nuts. The nut should only be tight enough to prevent play on the front wheel bearings. If you tighten them too much the bearings will fail because they are fighting the races with that side load. If you cannot find the correct nylon lock nuts, you will need to drill the spindle for cotter pins or safety wire to keep the castle nut from backing off.

I was actually tossing around the idea of drilling a hole and using a cotter pin. I like the idea of buying a couple nylon lock nuts better.

Take one of your current nuts with you. If I remember right, they are 16mm metric thread and may not be readily available at big box hardware stores.

I ended up finding a 5/8" spacer. I'm planning on cutting them into 1/4" pieces and putting them on either side of the bearings. As soon as the snow clears up anyway... It's the wrong time of year to start this project I guess. :-(
