Talking Can't leave well enough alone!

Looking to maybe build a buggy from scratch and have been investigating engines and ran across this Chinese engine on ebay. http://www.ebay.com/itm/DB300CC-4-va...749c79&vxp=mtr

It can be ordered with a reverse! But I have never heard of it, has anyone here? This type of setup will greatly reduce the complexity of the rearend/gearbox.

Also I am looking for sources for parts for a ground up build. The project (current plan)will have a 12-14" travel suspension with an independant rear suspension.

Things I can not find are front hub/spindles and rear IS axles. Tach/speedo cluster also.

One question you need to ask yourself if if something enginewise goes wrong, where do you get parts for it?

This is why I was hoping someone here had heard of these engines. But what I have found is that there is really no warrantee on them as well. At least in the US. Looked at an R6 motor also and it was to much money, power and no reverse.

Then I came across the buggy for sale that has a 2.2 liter chevy engine hooked up via a Comet snowmobile clutch.

I have been looking at the Geo, but the 3 cylinder version is hard to find and now I guess they are some kind of Toyota engine and are 4 cylinder? There is a turbo sprint on ebay but it will break the budget.

I have found a site that sells all the parts to make your own dune buggy and holly crap! Hubs for all four corners and a third member are more than I paid for the Hammerhead + all the repairs I ever had. Sticker shock is something else I guess.

you can use front wheel drive car front hubs, they bolt on and will last forever on a buggy and are stronger than trailer hubs.about $45-$65 each then you can use 14-15'' car wheels and still put atv tires or use truck tires.

That Predator sure exceeds that 48" width you mentioned before!!!!! Also would like to know what the machine bill was to taper the crank for that Comet clutch. That's an awesome buggy for $14. grand. I've run across a few car engines cheap!!! but a motorcycle engine still puts out so much more HP for it's weight & size for me to go that route in a mini-buggy.

wonder what it would cost to have a shipper pick up ssmike's chassis and get it to you ... it's in the classifieds, lots of goodies with it. not quite a roller, but close.

I never thought of using the hubs from a front wheel drive car. So do you have to use the strut or are there any cars that you know of that do not use a strut?

The 50" limit is still in effect if I want to stay on the trails, but I am thinking of making this one about the width of my trailer, 72". I believe the link to the buggy, the guy cut off a crank and welded it to a piece of steel and bolted it on. So that he could use the comet clutch. What is amazing is that a comet clutch can withstand that much power and abuse!

The frame in the classifieds would cost me more than he wants to ship it. Any time they can not start it and drive it on the truck there are loading fee's. Most shippers will not even deal with it. Great thought though.

My 2004 Nissan Sentra SPEV got rear ended on Saturday, it has 4 wheel disc brakes and a 200+ hp motor... Hmmmmm! Have to wait and see what the insurance company says.

They are fixing my Nissan so it is off the table. In looking through things I have discovered that it is going to be a long time before I pick this project up. Fate has once more kicked me straight in the nuts and I have survived. Had to have some things cut on inside of me and it will be a while before I can lift things again. I will post again when I start this up again. In the mean time you guys have some fun!

Got the results and it was all benign. I still do not know where all the blood came from. I have 2-3 weeks before I can be back to normal, for me anyway. Thank you for your hopes and prayers, it really means a lot to me.
